India's Lesbian Love Story Wins Maximum Award Nominations In New York Festival
From Permanent Roommates to Bang Baaja Baraat, web-shows have truly revolutionized the entertainment spectrum. Months after India's same-sex-love story launched, it not only won the respect of thousands of viewers sick of cliche romance on crappy soaps, but also top awards.
The Other Love Story has scored the highest number of nominations at the NYC Web Fest, with six nominations. Roopa told the Times of India: "I am thrilled that we have been noticed by a platform like this and that we are competing on a global level for some of the top awards at the festival."
Directed by Roopa Rao, The 'Other' Love Story is be India's first ever web-series around a same-sex relationship. According to Roopa, the world needs more conversation about same-sex love and that will be possible only if we take an initiative to break the notion of lesbianism being synonymous with porn.Roopa revealed that this has been her major inspiration to her to write a love story between two girls.
Talking about her upcoming web drama she told said: "A love story like this has not been captured in Indian cinema so far, trust me when I say it cause I breathe cinema, cinema is the only constant love affair of my life and a marriage I am fighting to keep up."
She further added: "If you are a sucker for sweet romance, if your heart belongs to unadulterated 90's, if you miss the era when the internet/cell phones had not hijacked human emotions, if you want to indulge in something that you have never witnessed or something that has happened to you...(who has not been in love...the first earth shattering, life altering kind of love) - this is for you."
